HELPED PROMOTE LOCAL BUSINESSES
LOUISVILLE, KY (September 24, 2010)… The Original Highlands Neighborhood Association (OHNA) (www.originalhighlands.com), one of the City’s most eclectic and energetic neighborhoods—known for its restaurants, pubs, and galleries— hosted its third annual fundraiser with a totally new twist. On Thursday, September 23, seven neighborhood pizza restaurants and eateries competed for Critics’ and People’s Choice Awards in “A Slice of the Highlands”--a compelling, tasty, and good-spirited event that raised fund for the OHNA and its charitable partner, Gilda’s Club Louisville (www.gildasclublouisville.org).
Participating restaurants included: Bearno’s, Famous BoomBozz Taphouse, Flanagan’s Ale House, Mulligan’s Pub & Grille, Papalinos NY Pizzeria, Spinelli’s Pizzeria, and ZA’s Pizza.
VIP judges included veteran food and wine critic Robin Garr (www.louisvillehotbytes.com), WAVE-3 news anchor and personality, Dawne Gee (www.wave3.com) , and the publisher of Food and Dining Magazine, John Carlos White (www.foodanddiningmagazine.com). Additionally, OHNA President Chuck Burke served as a celebrity judge.
Along with tasting some of the best pizza in town—over 300 attendees had the opportunity to vote for their favorite in the People’s Choice category
Critic’s Choice Awards went to the following: First Place, Papalino’s NY Pizzeria; Second Place, Mulligan’s Pub & Grille; and Third Place, Famous BoomBozz Taphouse.
People’s Choice Awards went to the following: First Place, Papalino’s NY Pizzeria; Second Place, Mulligan’s Pub & Grille; and Third Place, Bearno’s.
All participating restaurants were winners. Each eaterie offered samples to attendees, promoted their businesses through discounts and promotions, and offered one-minute "commercials" to guests during the event.
In addition to the almost 70 businesses that provided silent auction items, "The Slice's" major sponsors included: Kentucky Ale—the official beer of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010, the Wine Market, Dumante, Valu Market, and Wiltshire Pantry.
With the overwhelming success of this year’s benefit, OHNA plans on making this an annual event.
